I plan on being a computer science major in college, prob start going into that late next year. I was just wondering, I have heard some stories computer science can be a nightmare, but than many people tell me it all depends obviously on the professors you get. What are some job opportunities out there with a comp sci degree after college?

What a coincidence, im almost graduated and get a degree in computer science. I'm planning to be a sofware developer but you can be a project leader, gamedeveloper etc it all depends on what you want to do.

    Here is my advise:

    * Stick to one college, transferring will just waste your time and avoid community colleges.
    * The first year take pre-requests courses that are required for any major.
    * Take your time before selecting a major and select something you enjoy doing.

    Peace,

^ Why avoid community colleges/tranfering? Just curious. They are a good way to save money and brush up on your skills before you go to a 4 year.

It was pretty good overall. I now help students out with their homework/assignments and even projects that they dont understand (or too lazy) buti get paid for it so its all good.

But after i gruaduate im planning to spend more time to code and release my own software on my site than now and get a job. ( A few big companies already invited me to work there but ill see what th future holds for me)

Computer science is cool, you can make atleast 60K $ per year if you decide to join a software company, bad part is IT industry is seeing another recession simmilar to 2001 , so lot of it jobs will be cut, may be working as a freelance programmer will reduce the risk of getting hit badly.

Transferring can be an absolute nightmare. Lost 35 credits (at $95 a credit!) transferring from CC to a university. If you do use a community college, make sure you have a clear plan and make sure that all credits taken will transfer, otherwise you are wasting time and money. Think of all the studying and class time that went into 35 credits? That is a lot of God damn waste!

I went directly to a university and am studying Computer Science. For those who transferred and are third years, I'm a second year and am ahead in some classes already. It all depends. It can be a nightmare at times but if you can handle it its all good. Just takes careful time management skills, and study skills. If you enjoy programming, you probably won't mind.
