I am putting up for review, my computer reviews site: http://www.buythebestcomputer.com It consists of reviews of desktop computers and laptops from all the popular brands, with affiliate links from amazon.com Now I have sold stuff from amazon before, but never on a review site, this was my first. I've had it for about 6 months and have added content and promoted the site using various ways. I never got huge amounts of traffic, usually around 50 uniques per day, and currently about 20-30 pey day, which all comes from search engines from keyphrases that are practically the models and brands of different laptops and desktops - practically the most valuable traffic. These are people who know about a certain model and want to research more about it, and decide if they want to buy it. Now here comes the shocking part - at least for me. This site hasn't generated a single sale, NOT ONE, since I launched it. I gave up working on it out of frustration, but now, I decided to post this here in the hope that someone would be able to shed some light on this matter. I know the traffic isn't huge, but in these 6 months it had around 4000 uniques and no sales, and remember, this is supposed to be top quality traffic. Being an amazon.com affiliate, I am aware that only people from the US are able to buy from my site, but 90% of the traffic does come from the US. I am making sales off some Amazon DVD's and LCD TV's off an anime site, and can't make ONE damn sale off a review site with little but top quality traffic - to me, this defies all logic... Any ideas or suggestions? I've recently added some Adsense on the site to generate SOME revenue, in case anyone is wondering why I have Adsense on an affiliate review site...
For adsense, I would pick "image only adds", they image only adds related to computers make ya wanna click, they have good CTR. Amazon link placement looks fine, maybe you could make some of the images link to the amazon page. I would change the WP theme, the nicer/more professional the site looks, the more people will trust you, which means more people will consider buying something from a link on your page.
The site itself is very bland. I would start by dressing it up a bit (header, logo, news info accessible, etc.), something to give more visual appeal. Then I would work on giving folks a reason to come back, maybe something like "coming soon reviews" or features coming type of thing. I just felt like the site was unfinished and left me thinking it wasn't real type of thing.
Well the whole idea for the site was for it to be pretty clean and simple. People find directly the reviews, and the links get clicked on, so the real question that I am asking myself is ... do people avoid buying computers from amazon.com? If you're from the US, and you want to buy a computer online ... do you go to Amazon, or some other site? Bestbuy? Maybe I should try links from a different store...
My first impression was that the site is outdated. A "Latest news" section or "This month reviews" or something similar would show your visitors that your site is constantly updated. And they will come back next week if they do not buy now.
Thanks for the feedback guys, I will work on the site a little and give it another chance before I pull the plug
Do you have any bad reviews on your site? If not, than it's not a review site. People see through that and don't trust you because you haven't researched the products. Your just praising all the products saying there all good, at least the testimonials are. It makes you sound like a salesperson greeting someone at the door trying to sell them something, and people immediately put up there guards at that. I would try to make the site more personable, maybe have your own reviews, with what makes the product good and what makes it bad, than people can weigh their choices. In fact I think you would do better without the testimonials at all. (Most tech savy people get there products from Newegg.com but there's still a lot of people out there you could influence if you had insightful reviews.)
As above said by one of my friend your site is really looking outdated so you please look in to the matter of On page optimization a bit and Look and feel of your site...if your site need more traffic then your looks really matters...and so you please take this advise more generously.Off page optimization can help you more in the getting traffic to your site...Bookmarking should be more rigorous for this type of sites.
Very bland I have to agree. No wonder there has been no sales. Nothing to entice me to do anything but leave.
