Computer messed up; will a HDD enclosure work?

    Ok here's the problem.

My virus program reported a virus error, and I thought it worked it out.

I logged off and logged back on, and it keeps repeatedly logging off and on and so on.

I can't run anything now, although I know my file system is there.

I plan to get a HDD enclosure and load it as an external drive on my other PC.

Will this work? I know my data is there. It should be able to read the hard drive correct?

    Thanks

what virus SW is it? can you boot in safe mode? that's what you have to do sometimes to root a virus out...run spyware, adware, and Av in safe mode to ensure it doesn't keep propagating itself.

so far as loading it as an external drive...I think you'd be fine, that is unless of course it's a nasty bugger and finds it's way onto your other pc!!

No idea. I can't boot it in safe mode, nor load any live CDs at all. The virus completely wiped out explorer.exe; the interesting thing is that the virus became explorer.exe, so Norton was trying to delete explorer.exe itself.

I'll try to use an external drive, boot up my other PC in safe mode, then backup all the files on the hdd. Do you think this will keep everything safe?

    Thanks!

at this point it might be your only option but I've never had such a nasty critter so I can't be certain you'd be 100% safe....on another note, Norton is bad IMO...call them and thank them for their product totally screwing you over!!

Thanks; just reformatted, losing all my data :(

It was pretty urgent, but I know from now on I've gotta back up all my data externally.

Yes Norton is awful.. couldn't fix half of the spyware and viruses coming into my computer. I'm done using Norton Security Suite :D

It's a nasty lesson to learn - but you only need to learn it once.
I backup daily to a separate internal drive, and weekly to an external drive that I keep at my parents house.

Norton is a load of crap. Try using AVG, and SpyBot with TeaTimer enabled instead.
