    Greetings All -

My name is David and I am new on this forum. I am really looking forward to learning as much as I can about SEO/SEM from all of you as well as sharing my own experiences as a website owner.

I would really love to get my hands on a few great SEO books (i want to create a sort of SEO library here at the office) and was hoping you might have some suggestions for me. There are a ton of books out there so does anyone know of any really great ones?

Thanks in advance for your help!

David - the resident newbie (for now :p)

SEO Bible by Jerri L. Ledford from Wiley Publishing, Inc. It is a good SEO book.

SEO Book and Matt Cutts blog are good resources but those are too advance for you I think. I suggest you to do Google for "Learn SEO" OR "SEO Basics" and you'll find a lot of good resources.

Between, I've started a new SEO blog specially for beginners to learn SEO and I'm going to make regular posts from basics so you can bookmark it and check it regularly. My posts will not disappoint you at all.
Here is my blog: Learn SEO Basics

There are no GREAT SEO books out there. Any one who is really great at SEO is not going to give away their secrets in a book. They likely make their living online with affiliate sites, PPC, and SEO or consulting... so they do not give up the "secret sauce" that they've spent years learning and developing. That would be about as dumb as Coca-Cola telling you the formula for Coke. LOL

There are lots of basic SEO books out there that can give you a good foundation in SEO... the basic terminology and basic concepts. But if you find what you think to be a really "great" SEO book, that author would likely also want to sell you some swamp land in Florida. Pretty much any SEO book written in the last 1-2 years will fall into this category.

Great SEO techniques are learned through over many years... mostly through experience... observing, hypothesizing, testing, observing, hypothesizing, testing, ad infinitim.

start off by learning HTML, CSS, and Modifying php of wordpress templates, because you need to be able to do all this to modify the seo on page elements, if your onpage elements are not good then your off page activities will amount to just alot of hard work

Personally,if I were just getting into SEO, it would not be books that I would be looking for. Spend time on this forum as well as the small number of other high quality forums on the internet to learn about SEO. Practically speaking, anything that goes through the 2 year process of getting into print is likely out of date when it comes to SEO.

Some books are better than forums. Forums you will not get a comprehensive plan, but rather specific ideas and techniques which can be patched together but it takes some time and for every 10 good posts you'll usually hear 10 that are not right or fluff! A good respected book can teach some of the basics about quality back links (link acquisition, churn, PR distribution, keyword management, etc) things you don't often hear about in the forums. The trick is to find relevant guides/books and find ones from reputable successful sources!

If you want to read a lot of information about SEO I can recommend you
searchenginewatch[dot]com and seobook[dot]com, they have the basic
information about SEO and SEM. And to enhance your knowledge in SEO
Google is always available to ask for more information and resources.
And also a pdf file from bigoakincs[dot]com is a good source of SEO.
    Hope this helps :)
