Hi, I'm in the process of completely revamp my site. Right now it is a static site which got first page ranking. Now I want to completely revamp it to Drupal. I will keep the title tags and meta tags all the same. Will I lose ranking? if I will, can I revert back to the old site and keep its ranking?
Its possible you will lose it, but slowly it'll re-gain back again. I had a problem with that before. Just make sure you do it FAST.
To maintain rankings, you need to 301 redirect *each and every* old page to a new page. If you do that, googleBot will get it right.
You will not. Make sure you have reditected pages that you deleted or renamed. invalid URL does not have rank. site ranking is pretty much determined by off site factors now, especially a few influential ones that link to you.
Changing from static html pages to CMS based pages shouldn't cause any problems as long your url's and titles will be the same or you at least will write appropriate 301 redirects.
Another great tip. Make sure you set a folder one down from your root like example.com/go handle everything you need, copy everything you need, 301 redirect every single url and this is not only important for the google bot but any incoming links to, when they link to 404's you lose rank. Hope that helps some
Google is operating much differently lately, making the changes might improve your rankings simply because it will get the attention of crawlers. I would definitely install the xmlsitemap module when you make the changes, that way your new layout will be found quickly by search engines (submit or simply post a link to the page in your footer) and the crawlers won't take days to figure out pages have moved. You can setup 301 redirects to your new urls temporarily with the redirect module, but I wouldn't leave them long term unless you have many incoming links. If you don't have links to lose just redirect long enough to let the main search engines see the move, the sitemap will make that quick. Besides everything else, you might be able to simply replicate your url arrangment in Drupal if you are happy with your current arrangement, use the pathauto module. Good Luck with the move...
A few months ago I wrestled with the same problem, I changed my static site to a new drupal built one. I kept all my title tags and meta tags the same, but I didn't try to replicate the urls as I took the opportunity to build better urls, then I crossed my fingers and waited ...... until two weeks later when most of my major keyword rankings suddenly went up! I'm still not exactly sure why this happened, but after weeks of worrying about it, I'm glad I went ahead and made the move.
it will but as per requirement we need changes so go for it with make sure new website have proper user friendly if user find any difficulty so its a problem otherwise 301 is good option go for it.
