Competitors Traffic?

    Hi All,

Im currently doing some research in relation to a couple of different assignments. 1. Is comparing competitors traffic to ourselves. 2. Is deciding which advertising option recieves the highest amount of uniques/pageviews and then comparing the cost.

My question is, short from hacking into our competitors/advertising companies analytics account, is there an easy way to check the accurate amount of traffic a particular website is receiving? I would like a standalone number if possible.

I am aware of Alexa and have used this, though I am having problems converting their information into a accurate number.

    All help is much appeciated!

You can use some tool like keyword spy to know exactly what keyword and traffic your competitors are using..

    Are you kidding me?

No, there is no way to know how much traffic a webmaster gets.

I'm sorry, but that was a dumb question. Don't ya think?

You could pose as an advertiser, and request that info, but since so many lie....

However, you can use compete.com to get a rough estimate.

You can use Spyfu and get very accurate numbers for paid ad campaigns however for the true numbers you can use compete or hitwise.

You can use only third-party services to get that info, and the accuracy of info in based on how widely spread is the service. And Alexa is by far the most widely used one.

Before you stake anything on what you find out from spyfu, see what they come up with on a site you actually know about. I've always found it to be completely wrong.
All 3rd party tools are guesstimates - comscore is the nearest to reliable, but it costs, and it only reports on sites with a large traffic.

Remember, theres only 2 kinds of people...

Wankers and liars :D I'm no liar...

As everyone else has said, the webtools are highly inaccurate. All you can do is guesstimate and extrapolate any stats from your own site.
