It can easily be determine from google keyword suggestion tool. As you search keyword in that tool it is the first column where you can find competition bar. Mainly three level. low, medium and high....
For watching the competition with your keyword just make a search in Google using the keyword. Then the total number of result is the competition of your keyword.
The competition level in Google's tool is the advertiser competition and not the number of competing websites, generally if there is advertiser competition there will probably be a good number of competing sites. Many people will tell you to do a Google search using quotes - "keyword". However, that's not the best way to check. Use MarketSamurai or TrafficTravis to view the first page in the SERPs to see how well the sites are optimized. Unless there's a huge number of searches that's the only page that matters (not the competition numbers). However, in the evergreen niches you've got a lot of catching up to do.
Hi bob25, thanks for your suggestion, still we are using wordtracker but please let me know how to use MarketSamurai or TrafficTravis, your suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Traffic Travis 3 is free right now. Just download it and have a look at some of the tutorial videos. That should help you out.
I assume you mean the subscription? Wordtracker's (paid version) strong point is in generating list's. IMO it does so better than all of the keyword tools out there. Their KEI rating may be outdated though (IMO). But it all comes down to manually checking each keyword individually. You can filter down the results with keyword tool or Wordtracker, but in the end it comes down to viewing it in MarketSamurai's SEO Competion module (not sure what TT calls it). It'll give you a snapshot of how the first page SERPs are optimized - number of backlinks to the page and domain, strength of the backlinks, edu and gov backlinks, DMOZ and/or Yahoo listed, age, PR, keyword in title and url, etc. You can do it with the Firefox browser and SEOquake addon as well, but you need to adjust some settings or Google will temporarily disable it if you search a lot.
You can use Google Adword Keywords tool to get some idea about the kind of competition you will face for that keyword. With this, make search on google and see how many results google showing for that keyword, then kind of websites ranking in top 100 for that keyword, number of websites using that keywords in their title etc
I just installed SEOquake addon for my firefox and using it. I recommend everyone who is onto SEO to utilize this amazing tool. I am glad that bob25 recommended this tool
You can find that using Google adwords keyword tool. Also, you can get the exact number of competitors in SERP ( i.e ) number of results that you have obtained while typing search query ( your keyword )
