    Hi ya

thanks for this. indeed it is an interesting tool; however, in an ideal world i am looking for some ting that gives me a list of keywords/phrases a particular site is ranking on ... trying to eliminate the guesswork factor while doing keyword analysis for a competition site.

thanks in advance for your thoughts

I use SEMRush. It's always worked well for me. The results aren't 100% accurate but they're still better than just looking and guessing.

For this particular task, I would recommend SEM Rush or Keyword Spy. The great thing about tools like this is that they can analyze both paid and organize rankings. This allows you to learn a lot about their overall strategy. If the competitor is well established, they may have already done comprehensive testing to find the best keywords. So there is no point in reinventing the wheel.

You can use Traffic Travis to find out what keywords your competition is ranking on. You can also check how many backlinks they have and where. The free Traffic Travis 4 version was release recently, so you may want to download a copy.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

    Hi bestwestuniversal,
A competitive analysis reveals the search marketing strengths and weaknesses of your competitors. Knowing what your competitors are doing empowers you to develop powerful strategies with us to ensure that your business outperforms theirs.

For analyzing your competitor you have to analyze and uncover all of the key areas responsible for the performance of your competitors’ websites
    1. Search Engine Optimization – did your competitors improve their organic search engine performance? Which techniques were employed and how did they do? How you can use this knowledge with us to outperform them on the major search engines
2.Pay Per Click Advertising – are your competitors advertising on common pay per click channels? What keywords are they bidding on in paid search campaigns? We can replicate their Pay Per Click strategy for you and use their market knowledge and PPC marketing experience.
    3. Other marketing tactics - are your competitors using strategies such as social media marketing or affiliate marketing? Are they working for them and can we replicate what they do for them?
    4. Domain and Website trust, quality, usability and accessibility – are your competitors websites attractive to Google and the visitors they receive from it? Are they easy to use and accessible to all? Maybe you can exceed the visitor satisfaction of your competitors and finally outperform them because their users like your site better and switch over.

Spyfu and SEMRush are excellent paid options, both for features and price. SEMRush has better data but it seems that Spyfu has invested a lot into streamlining the user interface.

Google Insights for Search can sometimes be useful as well.
