Just curious if you have a general rule of thumb with regards to these numbers when looking for keywords to try and rank well for. I will occasionally see crazy KEI numbers which look tempting until I see the competition numbers, or low competition numbers, but with dismal corresponding search volume numbers. So is there a rule of thumb you use for these numbers? Such as:

    Competition less than X

    and/or

Daily searches more than Y ?

I like to see at least 10,000 searches per month for a long tail phrase.
At least 1 million monthly searches for the main base keywords. (something to look forward to)

Of course I prefer a lower marketing volume but that doesn't happen often and only really consider it when a phrase is borderline on the monthly searches or is a strongly relevant phrase yet has a low search volume.
