Hello! I want to create a blog about Counter Strike.
But, if you will use that keyword in Google, the top ranker (please assume) that it is Wikipedia.

It now comes that one of greatest SERP competitor is Wikipedia.

Had anyone here tried to market and defeated them?

I am looking forward to DPs most friendly and generous members to share their tips and advises on how did they outranked Wikipedia.

Well Wikipedia are obviously a tough cookie to beat. But if I was you I'd approach this in much the same way as any other competitor. I'd see who is linking back to them, then try and get link backs from those same locations. You can see who is linking to a particular site in Google by typing link:sitename.com.

I'd be very interested in any other suggestions?

go to google, search for "Counter Strike"

You get like 4.000, on about 20% of them you can find a way to link back.

Remeber: Try to clock your spam, you will need this on around 18% of them.

I owned some keyword too this way :)

Really beating wikipedia is almost impossible, but it seems at least when I searched for them this site www.counter-strike.net beat them out of the number one spot. It may be a site worth looking at to check there seo and backlinks.

Most people that are looking for information on counter-strike are looking for something besides just "counter-strike". I have a gaming forum and see traffic from people doing searches on stuff like "counter strike mp5 tips" or "how do I play counter-strike", "deagle counter strike", "counter strike ak47 playing tips".

Sites like wikipedia, the steam forums and counter-strike.net have several years head start on you. Its going to take you at least 1 year, if not 2 or 3 years to be able to really compete for that on word - "counter-strike". Even at 2 or 3 years, your probably not going to be able to beat the major players in that market.

I suggest you broaden your focus and target searches like what I mentioned above. That will get you into the "counter-strike" search market faster then focusing on a single search term.
