Hey I need some advice! From my knowledge, if you advertise the same URL as another advertiser under the same KEYWORD PHRASE, you are punished by google (be it a higher CPC or QS) right? Please correct me if I am wrong. Well, what if I run two seperate campaigns myself promoting the same URL under the same keywords? Will I be punished for doing this as above? Is this considered split testing? I'm a bit uncertain in this area so your advice will be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Brett
You are not 'punished' the way you think. You simply will not show up twice because AdWords will not allow multiple ads for the same URL. If you run two campaigns, same thing happens. One shows, the other does not.
Adwords will pick the best ad from two of you, and show it. and the other one will simply not show. by the best ad i mean a combination of ctr, max cpc, quality score and history. (remember new ads without history usually have lower qs than old ads.) if you run them in the SAME ACCOUNT, you are fine that could be considered split testing. (only 1 ad will show more frequently than another). if you run them in DIFFERENT ACCOUNTS, you might find substantially higher minimum bid for the second account and you will directly compete against yourself. I hope it helps, good luck!
You're not supposed to run the same keywords in multiple accounts unless you have permission. It's against their tos.
