    I use Majestic SEO to find competitor's backlinks. It's free, with an option to go Premium for deeper analysis. You can still see the number of backlinks and number of referring IPs for free.

    Apparently Google and Yahoo got rid of their backlink query option. Not sure of Bing.

    ex. if you want the links pointing to google.com
    link:http://www.google.com

    but Google doesn't want you see all the links so the best way is to use paid services like ahrefs or Majestic.

    @jimroddy There is a way, it's not so complicated however link:domain.tld won't work, this will works:

    "domain.tld" -site:domain.tld (example: "chkme.com" -site:chkme.com)

    Now, three things:
    1) you will need the URLS of your competitors;
    2) you will have to be able to filter spammy sites from real backlinks;
    3) You will have to pay attention to the consistence of the content.

    Once you will have the 3 things in your hands, you'll have what you want. The query is easy, at least 2 of the 3 things I said above are not easy.
