Compare 2 Dates

Hey, I got a date stored in DB in format: 2009-07-26 09:20:54 .

I need to compare that date with current date (now), so I think I need ti

subtract today-date=difference

what is the best way to do that ?

so basically you want something like to know how many days back the entry was made ? rite ?
