I received a call today from a company claiming they are certified by google, to offer the top position for adwords. They said they can guarantee that I will solely have the top postion for the keyword for a fixed fee. Anyway is there a way to get the top ad position all to yourself or does it come down to the click through rate and the success of your add in like getting on the top listing in the first place. Can you bid so high that you will get the Position all to yourself. I can see the selling of the top position a truth however, because google would be able to make more money if your ADD was paying a steady amount above their average cost per click, being that only one add can be clicked at a time it would make sense on their part to pay the highest steady bidder. Providing the site is relevant to the search term. The is for a geographically targeted state by the way.
Never heard of such a service. Maybe some more research into the company's history may help you decide..
If it isn't a competitive keyword then yes it's possible to reach the top position for a fixed fee. If it is competitive, then I would assume you would have to pay a VERY premium price to stay fixed at the top. The #1 position is based on CTR as well so if that is what you're targeting, you need to bid high from the very beginning to achieve a good history of high CTR (catchy ad text will help also)
Seems like the company that called you is a scam. I work for an SEO firm and we never ever promise our clients that they will be on the top spot on paid or organic search. Everything is all determined on the clients budget and how much they are willing to spend on keywords and time.
