Include the keyword at least in the title, and 1-2 heading tags.

focus on your content first, Your content must be unique and much have rich quality content.
Then research for the keywords should be perfect, Try low competition with high searches... Try to target the audience from where you want the traffic. For example your website is "Spent day at USA" and you want audience from bangladesh,srilanka and china.. Its not worth.. So try to focus on the city/country...
Meta Tags: Meta tags such as title, keywords, description etc.. Should be taken care off.. Any how long the description is.. How many times you are using keywords in title and description.. Try to elobrate the content of the site in a single with including your keyword in it..
Use H1,h2,h3 tags..
And if you are having a Ecommerce kind of website, Try to optimize even each product to get the maximum benifit... After you complete the SEO there are few websites online from which you check your ON Page SEO analysis, If you are having a website in wordpress then there are few free plugins available too...
