i have a site that gets just under 1000 hits per day. I would LOVE some ideas on how to increase my CTR...

    Thanks for any feedback.

You have to try adding different ad formats, I'd suggest replacing the banner with 2 squares or 2 medium rectangles, and adding a link unit on top of "dog owners"
    BTW: welcome to DP forums

5-6 % is an high CTR.

I think it is against googles terms of service to disclose CTR by the way !

its kinda messed up how you cant talk about it. you know when i look at a comparison ratio from adwords to adsense i can see why they dont want people disclosing the facts.

I played around with a few pages...and found the highest CTR was with the following

    Content
just below that an image to the left of a square sized rect (I went with the largest
and then more content below that.

The ad is above the fold but I think by putting the content above it you get people reading rather than skipping the links, so this way maybe they actually read the ads to decide if they want to click.

will keep tweaking and let you know if I get anywhere :) gotta love those channels!

Good ad placement... But try using link ads rather than those units.... Just embed thoselinks in between your navigation links as you have done in the top

typically when its like that people accidently click on the link and end up wondering how they ended up on that page. it might make more money like that by getting more clicks but myself i dont care for advertising that is so overpowering. i usually leave sites that have too many ads or are just to hard to navigate around.

Well, you don't have to worry about an adsense website having too many. According to their PP or TOS or w/e, max you can have is 2 on a page.
