    Hi there,
If you have a WordPress site, do the comments that people make help to improve the SEO?

Does google notice if there are regular comments and think 'hey people are interacting on here lets give them a few more points'

Obviously spam etc isn't going to be any good, but if you filter out the crud and just publish none spam comments is it better than having comments disabled?

Real comments and interacting with them help you with SEO by helping to grow your readership. No Google doesn't "give you more points for having comments", but what does happen is, the more people that read your blog, the better you chances that they will occasionally do SEO for you by sharing your articles across social media and social bookmarking sites or linking to them from their own blogs.
