It seems some helpful phpld forum member is offering this mod for free. You can view his demo here What I am wondering is, will this mod be useful and is it worth installing, or will it just be a spam magnet? Btw here is the thread if you want to download it.
Though it's nice - I wouldn't install it for thousands of links, even with best words banning tool. Previewing, approving - absolutely not to accept. And what MeetHere told - in 99% I agree.
This is one step towards increasing interactivity in web directories and making it more personal I will definitely try this on my PHPld dir once i start getting the hang of the script.. Thanks for pointing it out , and well it will feature on my directory blog tomorrow
Interesting comments so far, pretty much echo my own thoughts that this mod might not really offer any real value to submitters. After all to really get any valuable comments from users the person would come to the details page, go to the directory then come back or leave the window open and remember to switch back and comment. It might be interesting if this mod could be utilized so only the owner of the listings could comment, it could be called "News Updates" or something of the sort and they could let folks know about any specials or breaking news about their websites.
IMHO all you will get is spam comments to cialis drugs porn etc I used to have a comment/rate mod on my article site until I kept deleting about 300 links per day of spam comment so it went bye bye
Reminds me of when i had a shoutbox on one of my blogs, would get abused, would ban ip's etc but didn't help much and ended up removing the shoutbox.
This can be useful in the following case. When the Listing owner wants to update something about his website. Like adding some updated news , so he can comment there and get it approved instead of the directoryowner adding it as description.
Looks like a Phat mod, could be difficult to manage like, if there was a way to ban all links in the comments it might work. Web 2.0 Directory.
