Commenting blogs or replying threads on forum. Which one you think is better?

If you have 3 hours to work on traffic generation for your website, would you choose commenting blogs or replaying threads on forum?

To me forum usually have targeted visitors but the click rate is very low. And the good thing about blog commenting is you can get backlinks from different websites instead of just one forum.

    What you guys think?

Yeah I am with lisaoliver on this one. Go ahead and do both, it definately cannot hurt it. I put most of my time into forums and social networks

Neither, they are both low quality links.

If I had three hours a day to do traffic generation? I wouldn't think twice about posting on related forums for my sites niche. I would first find five or six sites that were related and then start posting. Make sure you find busy forums, if you pick a dead message board you won't get much in the way of traffic. For example I post on five fashion forums to promote a high heel website I run. It is currently 9:15 am local time and I have already received 66 visitors from yesterday's posts and threads. Generally speaking I usually get about 30-45 visits a day from each of the five message boards and the great thing is that it is all targeted traffic! Message boards FTW every time.

I'd say forum...partly because with a thread of your own it's like your own blog post

I'd say forum too, but blog commenting can be great for google if its dofollow.

If you can find a lot of good ( high PR and high traffic ) and niche related blogs which have dofollow commenting, then discussion ( commenting ) on them is far more better option than working in the forum. You can spend 1.5 hours on blog commenting, 1 hour on forum discussions ( as the link in your signature produce a number of backlinks ) and 0.5 hour on social media. You can not simply neglect social bookmarking.

Mixing up your backlink sources is important. Google doesn't want to see all of your links coming from the same strategy. They want a nice mix of everything - forum posting + links on other websites + some articles + even a press release or two.

Putting all your hours into the same method doesn't make any sense. And what happens if Google tweaks their algorithm, and your chosen link building method gets depreciated? Spending 3 hours every day for weeks on end on the same method doesn't make any sense to me.

    Keep a mix!

Blogs can sometimes give you dofollow links, but almost all forums have nofollow links. If you are doing this for traffic generation and not for link juice, you can do either of the two. Find a relevant active forum thread or a blog post and contribute something useful to the discussion before providing link for your site.

I would say forum posting. But make sure that you make your signature as eye popping as possible.

I receive a great deal of traffic from all the forums that I post on.

Blogs are nearly are nofollow, while I have found hundreds of dofollow forums. What's better for backlinks? Obviously dofollow.

I dont' prefer any of these methods, because they are parts of so-called "blue hat" SEO methods, and I have a requirement to use only white hat SEO tacktics as article writing, directory submition etc. I think that using any methods except "white" is risky and can spoil the reputation of my source.
