Comment Spam from Harry Potter?

    Hi,

I've been getting a decent number of comment spams recently. The thing that surprised me most were that the links in in the comments were from major sites (Wired, Washington Post, Harry Potter 4, the Johnny Cash movie). In the past all the obvious comment spam would be from fly-by-night operations hawking their questionable wares.

Have others been noticing this too? Is there a way to find out which SEO companies are doing this? I wonder if the companies that hired them know that they're using black hat tactics.

Why would the Washington Post hire a Seo?

    They're jealous. ;)

    Check out the PR,

    www.washingtonpost.com

    www.nytimes.com

A few million comment spams should do the trick.

Ugh... I just got another handful. Yet again for big sites (King Kong, Aint It Cool, ZDNet, Apple, amongst others). What is wrong with these people?!

You are assuming they are targeting their ads at you, and they're not. Tey are targeting the sucker that happens to stroll in off the SE street. Perhaps someone who doesn't know what comment spam is.
