Liverpool FC was just purchased by partners including an American who owns the Texas Rangers baseball and the Dallas Stars hockey. Man U is owned by the owner of the Tampa Bay Bucaneers football team and Aston Villa is owned by the Cleveland Browns football owner.

Where is the EPL heading? Will it be long before it's all foreign owned?

Chelsea, Portsmouth and West Ham are also owned by foreign nationals.

Speaking about the takeovers, it is enable the clubs to cement their footing in the transfer market. Liverpool haven't made any major signings over the last few years, primarily because Rafa does not have as much money at hand as say a Mourinho.

Plus there is the new stadium at Stanley Park, you need cash for that too :)

Why aren't English corporations buying up teams? I hated seeing all the English automakers being taken over by Germans and Americans. I don't really like seeing the Premier League being sold off to non-British concerns. Their must be some British companies that have both an interest in sport as well as advertising that goes along with ownership.

I just wish these American take overs would raise popularity of the sport over here.

I mean, the sport is already popular but it doesn't get the media attention it deserves.

Well it should be good for Liverpool's popularity here. I see youth clubs named after Man U, Celtic, Hotspurs, Milan, Arsenal, Barcelona and others so maybe now I will see a club named after Liverpool or The Reds.

There are a number of reasons why soccer will have a tough go at increasing popularity. There is the lack of scoring, prevalence of diving, and an offsides rule that hurts the game much more than it helps it (see hockey for a good offsides rule). The big three sports have have athletes doing things that 99% of viewers can't imagine themselves doing but sports like soccer, la crosse, bowling, darts, etc are sports that we can all imagine ourselves duplicating our heroes in.
