I have tons of comic books here at my house and I was looking to sell them through a website of my own creation. This isn't meant to be a multi-million dollar operation, but more for fun and as a hobby. My main question is, what is a good, inexpensive (preferably free) shopping cart/eCommerce system that would would work well for what I want to do?
For your needs Magento http://www.magentocommerce.com/ would be a good solution it has a free version http://www.magentocommerce.com/product/community-edition
mmm using wordpress ecommerce plugin then you can selling and blogging at the same time using your own site. And if you don't want to scratch your head on setting up an ecommerce platform your own you can try the hosted ecommerce platform like Shopify or FoxyCart.
interesting... I also have a couple of totes full of comic books sitting in my garage. Some I'd love to save for my boys to have, but some would be great to sell off. Please be sure to update how you are doing on your progress of setting up your own comic book sales site. As a thought, Paypal also has a shopping cart but I think it would be more tedious as believe you would have to process everything single comic book individually to setup.... Good luck, Jerold
Hi K4Lic0, I'm based in Japan and sell Japanese comics on one of my websites. It's not a major part of my business, but what I did was simply post the comics on my site and used Papal as my shopping cart. I then set up a blog about the comics and other goods I deal in. I also posted some articles about the comic scene on some article directories, with backlinks to my website, japanese-games-shop.com. If you are into it as a fun hobby, blogging is the way to go, and the suggestion that you set everything up on Wordpress (hosted on your own site) is excellent advice. The best webhost IMO for hosting Wordpress is BlueHost. Good luck! DH
Don't underestimate craigslist, a lot of people use it. There are other free ad sites online but this one seems to be the king of that kind of thing.
Erwin / David, Are you saying "mmm" is the WP ecommerce plugin name to go find and use? Maybe I missed the full name of the actual WP plugin to help simplify using WP and Ecommerce... Thanks guys, Jerold
