Been wondering how much do affiliate managers actually make? Are most of them on a salary basis or do they also get commission out of publishers who are under them?

I'm pretty sure they get commissions.

Speaking of that....I applied to a certain affiliate company a couple of weeks ago. A couple of days later I got an email from someone at the company, saying he was an affiliate manager there, and if I used his custom application page my app would get approved much faster. Then he links to the standard app page but with a referral id!

I thought, wow...how un-professional. Either the manager is doing something fishy; or the stupid company can't assign commission to its managers without getting their affiliates to apply all over again using an app with the manager's link.

Needless to say I decided not to do business with them.

Shawn Collins has a post about Am earnings on his blog http://blog.affiliatetip.com/archives/ask-shawn-collins-what-are-affiliate-managers-earning/

I do believe this report is skewed and takes in to affect in-house AM programs as well as those who work for a network. AM's make commissions on their affiliates, the bigger a network the more likely people at that network are making over the 100K mark.

I would guess that a good AM at a good CPA network is earning over 150K a year plus benefits, and other perks given by the company.

I guess that's in US dollars aswell. Thats a nice wage, but then they are a manager and it does involve some work with helping affiliates.

I would guess 70-90 base average and 2-5% commission as a bonus.
So depending on the size of the program the commission could add alot.
    But that's only a guess.

Long time since I've done affiliate management or did any job hunting
since I've had my own company for about 5 years now.
I make 3 times more in my specialty affiliate PR practice
than I could doing affiliate management.

Outsourced affiliate management companies typically charge 3,000-5,000 per month
and some of them manage 10 or more programs. One of my clients manages around
35 affiliate programs, so that's over 1 million a year in revenue. But realize that's not all profit,
they are paying big name affiliate managers to run each program.
