Despite my political views concerning its very existence I'm sure most people in the UK hope that Norn Iron can pull off the miracle. In order to qualify for Euro 2008 they need to beat Spain in Spain (which they've done before) and hope Sweden lose at home. Unlikely admittedly but as they're usually dead and buried by this stage in qualification the mere fact they've got a remote chance is a cause for celebration. And they've done it with a set of journeymen players from the likes of Fulham and Motherwell, unlike us with our under-performing 'superstars'.
No they couldn't. Euro 2008 will be the first ever tournament without at least one side from our little group of islands. In 1974 and 1978 when England didn't qualify for the World Cup at least Scotland did. Then in 1994 when no British side made it we supported Big Jack and the Irish lads. Ah well, at least the cricket season will be in full swing.
