I am baffled how some sites get so much traffic. Here is another example. The following site thetopthebest.com is on sale here. The owner states: "The website had some nice collection of posts and images in order to gain traffic from search engines. The traffic has jumped heavily this week from stumbleupon & Yahoo : http://www.alexa.com/data/details/tr...thebest.com?q= Prospective buyers are excited about it. The Alexa Rank is 42,000. I looked at the website. It is nothing special. Can this guy really be getting that kind of spike in traffic simpy from Stumbleupon and Yahoo? There is nothing on that site that would make me want to go back to it.
I read somewhere over here at DP that Alexa rankings can be manipulated - not sure if it's still the same case given that they've changed their rankings now. Anyways, if you have auto surf software programs, you can manipulate the Alexa ranking that way. I think the website also have tons of backlinks, that's why.
Wow, thats 40 million, never even heard of that site. I bet their making money from adsense, one click per 1000 visits /40,000 clicks, they'd still get rich
Come on! Alexa traffic is very easy to manipulate - here is an example of how you can manupulate Alexa rank... londondelight.co.uk Have a look if interested.
Well Alexa only counts hits from its toolbar search box, but you can add an alexa gadget to compensate, meaning every hit counts.
Alexa rankings are manipulated by networks of users with the alexa toolbar installed. Ironically, a higher alexa ranking makes no real difference in your real traffic or google rankings. Sorry. It's just another useless metric.
True but as your well aware people will use that as extra arsenal when and if they decide to sell sites or if they go looking for advertisers or even advertisers looking for them.
