I've got a site which gets it's traffic split evenly between US and UK traffic. Has anyone implemented a geo solution so they can use both of the different associates programmes - how easy was it?
I am not sure how you work - but there are some scripts that have this feature available. You can also incorporate Acclaim Subscriptions affiliate links - worldwide sales are commissionable with over 200,000 publications.
Honestly, its not really necessary to try to implement a geoip look for this. Simply place a small graphic of a U.S. flag and a small graphic of a U.K. flag. and let the visitor click the flag to select which amazon store they want to shop from. You could also do it from a little drop down menu which is probably a little cleaner then having flags everywhere. This is simple and gives your visitors the best performance, versus doing a geoip lookup on each web request just to see where the visitor resides (which isn't very accurate either). Yeah, that's pretty much how I figured it too - Geotargetting can be pretty hit-and-miss, and it's not a big deal to have them select the country themselves and then save a cookie so they will always show the same country on subsequent visits. I believe there is no 100% accurate geotargetting service, especially not a accurate free one.
There are several solutions to the problem. They work fine if the product is double listed on both sites, for instance an ipod. But with many products they would have one listed in the US and a slightly different product that performs the same function in the UK. I am a coder, so what I did was to modify some code I found online. Basically what it does is show one block of content if your from Europe and another block of content if your from the rest of the world. This page is a good example: Travel safety tips
