For SEO it does not matter.
For people in general - dot com. The problem is good dot coms are hard to come by.

    SEO:
    No difference

Prefer .coms, then .net, then .org in my opinion. Also note that .org is typically associated with non-profit organisations, so no major websites sellings goods will touch a .org.

Ya in order of preference .com comes first, my personal preference is ".net" it sounds cool  compared to the other one... I think .net is associated with ISPs not sure about that

I agree with you actually ;) but I think .com is a lot more popular and widely known by people who don't even have the internet, so it's my #1 since it's more memorable and recognisable.

Ok you got a point :) but .net is also getting popular, I've been working for a web hosting company (selling domain with the package) for some months & many people were taking .net I think it sounds more attractive than the .com

There are also some extension that I very rarely see or haven't seen, I really want to see a domain with .name, been searching for a while but couldn't find any yet...

.com's are by far the most popular, however, .net is the best second choice. :)

I heard about .name domains only last year, am sure they are new, this domain has a PR6! maybe because it's a blog, anyways I think .name domains are better for artists as ordinary people (like me) will mostly look for business oriented domains .com or .net

From an SEO perspective, all those extensions are as good as each other. If you're looking to build a site around your business, then you should definitely get a .com name. You don't want to take second best and risk one of your competitors (or whoever owns the .com) taking some of your traffic.

I think one of the most used extensions is okie. I prefer .com, but if I had to choose betwen very long domain with .com extension or short, easy to remember domain with another extension, I would choose the latter.

.OKIE - Never heard of that one.

Would make a great domain hack =
    Co.okie
    Lo.okie
    Wo.okie :D

    Whats wrong with .co.<>

even they seems to work for me .co.uk, .co.in etc

if your site is specificlly targating any particular region.

    musicgood.net or good-music.org

Sorry for my english, its not my native language.

    .org is for community.
.net is bad since people always type in the .com version, so id rather go with country specific tld whatever you are targeting or .me or .ws is also good.

dont like .net but that's me.
