I an interested in a particular name...

It is a only content site. I am making this primilarily for adsense income

The problem is that the .com domain is already registerd ...

    .net is available

shd i take this name or think of an other name?

would u register a .net domain if the .com domain is already registered an a running site on the similar contents

depend on how you are going to use to name. if it is a typo or keyword name, get another one cause .net doesn't recevie much type in hit.

On the other hand, if you intent to get traffic from SE, you should first see if the .com is developed. If it is developed, better get another name. If the .com is just a park page, .net or .org would be ok. Just buy the .com when you are making big buck;)

I've bought .net domains on several occassions when the .com has already been registered. I don't see any reason why not to, unless the .com is owned by someone who is both likely and able to prise the .net from you at a later date.

I guess it depends on what the domain is for.

If you will only be advertising it via search engines then no problems.

In theory there is no difference in the two when it comes to search engines becasue search engines dont differentiate between .com and .net (or do they?) but if you are called "realestate.net" are you prepared to lose traffic to your competitor "realestate.com" because many many people type .com, becasue its ".com this and .com that" in the real world, so it sticks in peoples heads.

Its the same story with the dashes.

I have a client called Rural Estates.

ruralestates.com was already gone so he registered rural-estates.com

He was finding that he was losing alot of email and web traffic becasue some people were not putting the dash in the middle of the name, so the ruralestates.com guy was laughing.

In the end we managed to obtain the .com without the dash and everything is okay.

If its for business, I would register as many as I can afford, .net, .co.uk, .info, .eu etc etc.

Sometimes I look at "serious" companies and see they have a .net domain and think to myself, "well they cant be that great if they cant afford or could not get the .com" - but thats just my opinion.

.net is fine, if the domain is good, take it

well if business.com is gone, business.net is a good choice thts my opinion
i recently aquired business forum .net , great value if the name is close to a good one..

so decide and go for it

.com is the best, but I would get the .net if it is a good domain that fits the site perfect.

Hi guys sorry but >.com is KING and will remain so for eons...unless search engines or someone does something drastic.

For instance If I type ww.hows your mother.net..it will take me to .net site.
BUt if like many users i just type in the search bar "hows your mother...yep without question it will take me to the first available .com site .

So in other words you could bust a gut for year developing a .Net site, then have great traffic..but in the meantime someone is sitting on the .com site not developed..then this person all of a sudden decides to make a site with the same name but .com.
So....then along comes joe blo types in the domain without ww or anything else..and presto goes straight to the .com site...keep in mind this person could be also stealing natural traffic you built up with the .net site.

sorry to be long in my first post.
hope did not confuse anyone..but .com first daylight second in my books.
    regards.
