In terms of seo, would a blahblah.com rank higher than an identical site with blahblah.info?

Rank higher with respect to what? PR will always be based on how many people you get to link to you.

I guess only an algorhythm's author can answer for sure, but...

My guess is that all things being equal, .com or .xxx will factor equally in how a site performs on the SEs.

The value of a .com really comes into play, though, when a user does a type in, or tries to remember what that really cool site they were at yesterday.

Most will think xxx.com instead of xxx.info

I don't think from the data I have seen that the extention has any affect on the search engine ranking. Now this is not saying that the .com may get more traffic than the .info, but from a pure SERP point of view, I would say no.

.com are definitly more popular. In 2005 .com domains were registered way more than. info, though it was very cheaper.

So, if you're after SE traffic, then you could register any extension (even .biz is as good as any other). If you want it to be brandable, then go for a .com domain. Otherwise, there will be people who will try to get on your site by typing in its name but will choose the wrong extension. .com is the safest choice.

right now the answer is "you can use any of them" , but take a deep look in the future... google algo is changing... so i will go for a .com why?! because .com is much more popular and seriouse then an .info ; .cc ; get me?!

Let me tell you something about DMOZ / Google and the future of SEO. I talked with some DMOZ editors, and DMOZ editors usualy only accept top level domin names knowadays lkike site1.com site2.com site3.com , they don't accept into theyre SERPS pages like site1.com/sub-dire/sub/sub/page.html ... Why ?! because 1 single page with some shity-eblog content on your website don't mean anything... all your website must to be content-related only to a given keyword... so you people take care and better build a .com domain name for every keyword you want to rank high in the future... because never knows how smart google will be tomorow
