    In general guys do you think that a com is the only way to go. In other words do the engines behave differently with other domains as in preference to coms?

    its doesnt matter that much i think, its more for branding and people will probably find a .com easier on their own, but for a search engine, I dont think they care

    yeah SEs dont care much....

    I have just bought a .ORG domain.

    and with the .com domains getting scarce it seems that the other names will also pick up.

    My prefrence will be to go in for a .com then .net and then .org

    Search engines treat .com, .net, .org identically as far as I'm aware.

    If however you registered a country code domain name like .co.uk or .ca, it may give your site a boost in the regional SERPs.
