I don't think it matters to SEOs. What comes before the . does affect ranking/SEO, from personal experience.

A good news indeed! ;) Although I believe many people will not agree with this.

Extension doesn't matter for SEO (unless a specific region / country extension which may make a difference).

.com is much preferable and suggested one. Its also depend on your requirement for example if you are looking to run any commercial site then definitely go for .com

and else .info to provide the information like wise you know already...

Any will be fine as far as SE's go. Use .com if you plan to generate a lot of type-in traffic

.com because it's the universal TLD and people will type that in as default if they remember the main part of your domain.

And Universal TLD's like .com, .net, .biz don't matter towards SEO, .de, .co.uk make a huge difference

I've read .info has a slight advantage in the SERPs, could't confirm this though.

hmmm, sounds strange why the .info would rank better if what you say dcristo is true as the .com is THE TLD, if you say domain, you think .com lol ;)

As I said, take it with a grain of salt. .info is associated with informational sites so it wouldn't surprise me if they did. We are talking a very small factor here anyway.

yeah yeah, I already had my helping of salt :) lol, that does actually make sense, but even wikipedia isn't .info and wikipedia is information of course, .gov and .ac sites hold the most weight IMO.

I'll definately keep that in mind tho for the .info

I doubt that a search engine would make this association. You can't determine the content of a site from its TLD. There are plenty of examples around of online shops that use .info TLD's and they aren't what I'd call 'informational'.

Cheap domains are the sign of spam. Give me an example of a .info ranking for a decent search term.

Ext doesnt matter, i have an entire network of .info domains ranking very well on yahoo for competitive kw, it's a matter of combining good content and a good link buiding campaign.

I have several .info sites that are new but are doing very well. Let's make this clear. My sites are not information sites. They are sites focussed on products sales. Take for instance www.fleetcars.info and www.mymoviereview.info just for starters.

    Col :)

Mate I can't agree with that at all. NewYork.info selling for close to 50K just goes to show .info is on the way up. There are alternatives to everything you choose to buy as a consumer. Why not with domains? Every webmaster can't afford to spend bucketloads just to have a decent domain. Here in Australia companies are jumping on .info, for example cityrail.info I'm sure the US is as well, as there about 5 years ahead of us  :D

This is just one example and does not show anything about .info domains.

This site does well. It has a .info TLD. Therefore .info TLDs have an advantage. Wrong conclusion. :)
