Hi, I know the country or .com question has been asked a million times but with a forum it's different. I'm setting up a slimming forum, i've registered the .co.uk and the .com domains. If I put it on the .co.uk, the rankings will be higher and it will be easier to grow, but i'll be limiting long term growth. If it's on the .com it will be harder to get off the ground but the long term grow could be better. Has anyone got any experience with this?
I think most folks are going to suggest using the *.com as it's the standard. Why not make a country specific subforum on your topic (I have no idea what a slimming forum is) and use the *.co.uk to point at that? If not, make sure whatever domain doesn't get picked forwards to the one that does.
It depend what you looking for. If you are focus on local member, then go to .co.uk, else go to .com If you are serious on running the forum for long time, take some time to get better result is worth
Slimming is to do with diet and weight loss. I've just learnt that slimming is actually a UK word. I think i'm going go for the .com, it just looks more professional and this is a long term project.
Redirect co.uk to .com and promote forum with country domain in your country, and with .com world wide
Choosing .com would be the safer choice. You obviously do not intend to limit your target market to just the UK audience. And I agree .com is usually the first thing that will come into the mind of anybody searching for your target niche/keyword (slimming). However, with domain names not really that expensive, have you considered registering both .co.uk and .com? In this way you get the best of both worlds.
