i am intending to purchase a new domain name for my project. Just asking some presales questions... is .com domain better then .org or vice versa?
.com is better unless its a non-profit site in which case it may suit a .org. Best to buy both and use the .com
YES, buy both of them for sure....even consider buying the .net version as well. Domain names are cheap so there is no excuse not to buy.
For commercial purposes .com is the best and certainly better than .org. on the other hand .org is more suitable for a non-profit organization site than .com. So it depends on what is your site about.
For all practical purposes, the .com version is better. In the end, it really boils down to what you plan on doing with the site. If it's a non-for-profit, then the .org might be a better choice.
Ask yourself, if you need to type-in a domain name, would you remember it as a .com or a .org ? People seems to refer to the internet as DotCom instead of DotOrg, guess it is the familiarity of it all.
Whether you have a non-profit or commercial site, people's first bet is for the dot.com Let's say your site is named CharityReport, if you say to someone just that, such person will probably type in charityreport.com However, to mantain a non-profitable sense of your original concept, you can get the com and redirect it to your org site, just keeping traffic generated by people going to the most popular extension.
Get both, but as everyone says, .COM is definitely the TLD deity. If you are building a site you are really serious about- get the .com, .net, .org and whatever country extention the target audience is from (.co.uk .us etc)
.com is at least 10 times as valuable as others typically. If you intend on really building the site, I'd buy at least com net and org. When things work out 1000+ traffic / day consider the cc, ca, us, info and other top ones if speculator hasn't already gotten it.
