i am thinking about getting another .net domain, but i wonder if i will be screwed over getting .net instead of .com ? will it be difficult to get top ranking position for a .net domain ? does google look at .com as more relevant and important ?
No it doesn't make a difference, but sometimes people when looking for a website may type .com before .net. If .com is already taken and .net is available for the domain you want - get the .net I get good results in the top three search engines and don't have a .com or .net
Yeah, it doesn't make a difference. But I usually try to scoop up the .net and .com just so I don't have to work too hard to optimize for the site's name.
For some reason I always think the .com sounds much more professional, and would always click to .com before .net. But as the others said, it makes no difference. So go for it.
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=15576m Your issue will be, if you own the .org extension and someone types in the .com or trademark of a name, thats all, nothing to do with SERP's
It doesnt make any difference for seo. .com, .net, .org - As long as you are not targetting specific countries, then use regional domains as well.
I know. & Carmella.com and Carmella.net are taken, too. & If you goto Carmella.co.uk you get som random shit about Bingo wings, with the quote; I could have made a much better site, than one about bingo wings! *Puts thinking cap back on*
Aw Mellie-baby.com Hmm... I already started a blog & now I'm thinking about getting a site. Good god what is wrong with me. Ub3r g33k
A little secret - apparently some very famous search engines used to load to favour .com over .net. Ultimately, you do SEO to increase your visibility for human traffic, and a .com will likely be more inviting than a .net due to perceived value of the .com TLD. 2c.
"some"? "used to"? I don't think so. It's not more inviting in a search engine listing, since what the searcher will see is a list of page titles, and that's what they'll click on, not the URL four lines or so below the page title. The only real advantage is that if somebody is going to take a stab at your domain name (dodgy at best) they will likely guess .com first and try other variations if that doesn't serve up the right business/person. 2b (or not... whatever...)
