    Hello,

I saw there are many websites (.com.au domain) show ABN number in the footer section. I am curious to know whether it is mandatory to add ABN number in website or it is optional?

    Thanks

No mate. It is not mandatory. I own over 100 .com.au , leaving the ABN will bee a nice footprint. don't u think?

Nitrogen77, thanks for your opinion. Personally, I also think it's not a good idea to add ABN number in website.

You just need the ABN to register .com.au

As far as i know i thought you had to be a registered and licenced business to get an ABN number which is also required to register a com.au domain. Its a whole pandora box of legal stuff

I tried it once years ago and the registrar form was going to ask for all this info to prove i owned a registered business to able to get the .com.au domain name. If there is a away around it i think if someone challenged or tried to verify your business details you would be soon found out and probably lose it.

Its sort of a government legislation security measure to make sure real businesses get the opportunity to register and protect their online id and to prevent cyber squatting of anyone buying domain names for real businesses who have not registered it yet then blackmailing them by asking them to pay a fee for them to get it.......
