I currently have a website running on .com . I want to buy a .net and point it to the same folder as the .com is pointing to

    ex

    mysite.com/index.php

    then

    mysite.net/index.php

they will point to the same place but look like two different domains. how can this be done ?

    1. Ask your web hosting company to add your .net domain as domain name alias to your account (if they provide such service).

    2. Check with your domain name registrar if they have an option to forward your .net domain name to your .com version.

Option number 1 will point both domain names to the same web site, and they would be working as mirrors - both sites opening the same pages. This may give you bad results with search engines, since they will see it as the same content on two different web sites, so one of those two might get penalized, or even both.

Option number 2 will just forward your .net domain name to your .com version, and it won't probably get listed on any search engine and it wouldn't benefit you much, but you will have both domains pointed to the same site.

If you have cpanel, it is the Parked Domains option. Add the second domain there and ... voila!

Careful about duplicating the two sites outright. Ideally, if they will be showing the exact same content, you should instead re-direct one site entirely to the other. Search engines can be confused as to which site is authoritative for the unique content and it could cause indexing issues.

Choose addon domain and link it to the main public_html that way both will be on same directory
