Hi guys! I wanted to buy a domain name for which only the .net of that domain is available. What is basically the difference between .net and .com . Will there be any difference when it comes to site optimzation or any thing else pertaining to search engine rankings etc. Regards, Hemanth
The major difference will be the value of the name, .coms are always worth more. Also, you may lose some visitors who may type in your site and forget that it is .net.
you can obtain search engine rankings with any ext but once the surfers find you, you will want them to ocme back if the forget that you are .net they will go to the .com If the .com is an active site you might loose a % to that site If it's a parked page the visitors might try .net and come to you after all If you are going to develop a new site try to find a good brandable domain name that has the .com available or just try to buy the .com from the current owner
Hi This thing about he typing .com instead of .net is so true for a visitor. Yeah Poeple thanks a lot all of you. I have concluded I will go for a .com domain although I have a choice of a better .net domain. Thanks Again, Hemanth
hey just one more thing. as the domains are not that expensive at all you can also setup a landing page on the .net and optimize it well for SEs Then you can just add links to your .com from that site after all a domain name is 8 bucks
.com is always the way to go, if i can not get the .com i dont use the domain evein if i have alll other extensions
yeah but what about new visitors, Everyone is going to be new at some point and people usually always think .com
lol, i think new visitors will come from a page where you have a link or from search engines... when you need something you just type a domain in adress bar or you google ?
The domain business is on fire lately with prices for type-in domains going up fast. the people that will first type-in the domain related to what they need are 15 % so that's quite a big number and that's tha people that are not that savvy and at least for Ads they convert better
The value of the name is really the only thing of matter. Whether a .com or a .net, both have good impact, well better than a .biz or a .ws anyways. It comes down to the name itself and the marketability as well as promoting it. Resale of the name would be better as a .com than a .net but not by much. You might want to check with the owner of the .com name you wanted, just because it was taken already doesn't mean they won't sell it. It may be worth it for you to try and purchase the .com and the .net together. Then you can point the .net at the .com for a little extra traffic. You can check the WHOIS report on sites like NorthBoard.com. I think their is a link at the top of their page to check it. Good luck.
There is absolutely no difference in my experience. Now if you have a .edu or .gov, it might be a different story
.com is more comon than .net but for SEo it doesn't metter. If Your site is 1st in SERP You will get lots of visitors... only what You can lost is when same visitor want back to Your site probably he will type .com not .net but if he search in SERP he will find Your site in 1st place
considering that the #1 SERP is not gonna happen for some time you better keep the visitors that somehow find your site
dot com can buy us top position for keyword phrase on our domain name for example my domain is prdeal.com im a top position for "PR Deal" at google and also wtslink.com I'm again the top position for "WTS Link" at google try check it your self.
if you build up the value of a .net domain, the .com will get some (if not alot) of your traffic . . . if you really want to build a business, try .com its better . . . unless its a really good domain name . . . (and to make sure people remenber you are a .net not a .com, name your company something like "Jave Networks" rather than just Java . . . (the free rider problem)
I don't think the TLD's like .com or .net would make any difference in the site's search engine rankings. It might be a different scenario in case of ccTLDs but TLDs do have any effect.
