.com and .co.uk Disparity?

Today, I noticed something REALLY strange. For one of my keywords, my ranking on google.co.uk has plummeted from first page to fourth page. But at the same time, on google.com, my site rose from an obscure ranking to occupy the #5 spot for the same keywords. Has something like this ever happened to anyone? None of my other keywords seem to have been affected, just this particular one. Is it possibly a 'fluctuation' that could 'fix' itself soon enough?

    There can be 3 possibilites:
1- Moving your site hosting from UK to US.
2- Having some very strong backlinks from the sites hosted in the US and/or losing some backlinks in the UK.
3- A change in the global network connections made by your hosting or its network providers.

If you haven't changed anything recently it can be a great fluctuation in the search volume of the keyword and you can have nothing to fix.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess it could be google messing with the algorithms again :| Since generally my serps seem stable but they change a fair bit (e.g. my position will shoot to #1, go down to #7, stay at #3 for a while, repeat etc). I have not moved servers for a long time, and I see no sign of lost backlinks. Most of my backlinks are from the US but typically google.co.uk has treated me well.

maybe its because of the update of google algo.. but then observe your rankings regularly and continue building more links..

Domain name play huge role. If you search the keyword in UK then Google gives more priority to the .uk domain than .com domain. So, it is important to decide which area of the world you want to target and purchase the domain name according to that. It will reduce your work as well. IP address of the hosting server also plays role in the ranking.

Well I am back on the first page for the keyword on google.co.uk and I am still on the first page for the same keyword on .com too. Hopefully it will stay that way, lol.

My advice is keep checking your rankings.....I don’t think it will last for long time I’m sure in a few days your keyword’s positions will return to a normal state.

Yeah, I think the keywords in general are just rapidly fluctuating at the moment. My site keeps going up and down and I've noticed it for other related sites too.
