Hello, I created the Javascript color picker the other day and just bought the domain colorit.org and then made a quick website. What are your thoughts regarding the site? What are your thoughts regarding the color picker? How do you think I could profit off a site like this? http://www.colorit.org
If you want to profit from google adsense, it goes to how expensive your niche is and how many users you can get. I don't think this niche has high click unit price, so the problem goes to your traffic. You can try to optimize the keywords of 'color picker' and 'html color picker' which two get nearly 50,000 queries every month. If you can get rank at top 1 of these keywords, you can earn 50,000 * 50% * 0.3% * 0.1$ = 7.5$ every month, here 50% is the click ratio on the 1st search result, 0.3% is the google ads click ratio, and 0.1$ is the estimated ads click unit price in my experieces. Though the calculation of above is rough, you can already shape out the level that you can profit out.
Very helpful post, thank you so much. Since I'm hosted for free and my only expense was the domain name, I think I'll give it a shot. It didn't take much for me to make the site, the layout was very easy for me to make and the colorpicker I was making regardless of whether or not the site was online. Where would you suggest putting advertisements? I don't want them to be too disruptive, but I want them noticeable.
The website is very simple, but that's what I like about it. I can't be doing with websites that are too cluttered! In regard to adverts, perhaps when someone comes to download your software you could open a 'whole page advertisement' which lasts 5-10 seconds before the download begins. If you want to place AdSense or other similiar adverts I would suggest putting them at the end of each section, for example at the end of 'Frequently Asked Questions' and 'Download ColorIt'
Interesting selection for advertisements. I'll think about it -- I'm considering just building up the traffic and then renting banner space for like $5 a month -- I think that'd be really effective for advertisers if their site were related to Javascript or web development. I added a contact form, new meta tags, and crosshair cursor upon hovering thanks to feedback from somebody here.
Great easy little site! My feedback: - Change the colors to something less "earthy" - make it look proud of the color picker! - Grab a new kicking logo, although that one is ok - You could drive traffic with a little FF bookmarklet that opens up a small window with one picker for quick use!
The FF bookmarlet thing is a very practical idea -- I'm strongly considering it, I just have to think a little about how I would want to do that. I was thinking of a bigger and more colorful logo myself, but I'm not the best when it comes to Photoshop -- although I did make that logo that's currently there. I'm not sure how much a nice logo goes for but my budget is embarrassingly low -- I've got under $10 in paypal for now. I was considering redoing the colors too, I'm considering a different color for each heading: green for home, and then 1 of each of the 6 major color domains in the rainbow. I'm still thinking about these things though, this site is very new and has barely any traffic for the time being, so it's pretty flexible. Thanks for your suggestion, I appreciate it.
