I prefer white text on a black background. Is it just me or is this easiest on your eyes?

Wait till you hit your forties. Then you won't feel quite so warm and fuzzy about it.

It bothers me, so any sites I surf to with this color scheme, I leave quickly.

I leave in a nanosecond when I encounter a site with a black background and white text. It gives me an instant headache.

Black on Off white is best imo - most books, papers and mags follow this.

I find white background better, and (no offence to anyone) I find black with white text sites are usually tacky.

Actually, I've heard (but can't provide a source) that white text on black background is actually easier to read on a computer screen than white text on a back background. Maybe it was, back in the day, but with decent sans-serif fonts desined specifically to be read on a computer (like Verdana), and serif fonts (which has always been easier to read), being used rather than the old 80-column display, this might have changed.

And black - as a colour - is a harsh mistress to design with. You really have to know what you're doing, otherwise your site will look very amateurish.

You don't have to wait that long. I'm in my 20's and I can't stand white text on black background. It's hard on my eyes.

A color scheme that's easy on the eyes? Dark text on a light background.

I think black text on a white background/light background is best, but I read some research that white text on a cyan (blue) background is the easiest on the eyes... who knows.

Most of my pages are black on white (mullatto?).

But I saw a few sites recently that had a very light tan which were easier to read for extended pages of text. So I changed a few of mine.

I like the color schemes done by the person that designed...

    www.americangardenmuseum.com

Their name is somewhere on the page and at their main site is a portfolio.
