    Hello,

This might be a weird question but a friend was asking and I couldn't find any answer anywhere.

If you fail a class in semester 1 of college.. are you able to move onto semester 2 anyways? .. and then just overall without that class you'd be unable to pass?

    Thanks,

    ~JC

Yeah you can. Instead of taking the next two courses you would have to take, one of them would be the one you failed.

    Example:

You are taking COM 101 and CRT 101 and the next courses that you are scheduled for are COM 102 and CRT 102. Say that you fail the CRT 101, your next classes would be the CRT 101 that you failed and the COM 102.

    I hope that makes sense!

Yes, even if you fail, you can move on. You will have to redo the class in the next semester or whenever.

You would just have to take the same courses again. You don't really move on from semester to semester like one does in high school... if you fail classes, you have to make them up which can make you graduate later. In college people graduate at all different times. It's not abnormal to take five years to complete college. Some people even take six! This is because some people complete degree requirements at different times and some people take extra classes just for the fun of it. The college I went to had a class called "Dinosaurs." Who wouldn't want to take that? I don't know of anyone. I also can't think of a degree that the course would fill a requirement for... maybe some sort of science or history degree...

It doesn't matter. If the course you failed is one that you have to take, then you will have to retake it. Most classes you take in college that they make you take are called "stepping stones". That is classes that give you information that you will need in future classes, even if the next class you have to take isn't the second part of the class that you failed.

It depends on the course actually. Even if your course in not a second part to the first one, some courses have pre-requisite courses. Like I might be taking a engineering course and a physics course might be a pre-requisite to it although it isn't a 101 and 102 kind of thing. So, you really need to check the courses u will be taking later and find if they have any pre-requisites. And if the course you failed is one of those pre-requisites.
