I'm a High School Senior and its college application time

I've narrowed my possible majors down to two choices:

    Computer Science
    (Computer) Information Systems

CS Description: As a computer science major, programming courses will be a key part of your studies. These classes cover languages such as C++ and Java, and introduce you to the precise thinking behind computer programming. You’ll learn how to solve problems by translating a question into instructions a computer can follow to come up with the answers. And you’ll explore what goes on inside a computer when it’s solving a problem.

CIS: Computer information systems coursework typically comprises networking, communications, some computer programming (including SQL and other database query and programming languages), and systems development and analysis.

What do you guys think would be the best choice right now? Who do you think businesses would rather take?

Honestly, I don't want to be a code monkey for the rest of my life so I'm leaning towards CIS right now. Any of you majoring in one of these currently?

Hello, I am in same position as you, deciding college and what not.

But I would say, please do not do programming your whole life, just think... do you imagine yourself actually programming your whole life? You may come up with big software one day, but if not, you will be programming and programming.

For me, I took into and advanced (c++), and it was ok, But NOT something I would want to do my whole life, it is very dull and boring :\

Business is always looking for people in skill of networking, communications and general overlook of the system of computers. This way you will want to know some programming, but don't have to depend on it and do it your whole life.

Good luck with your choice, as it is a big one!

As a former college student (graduate actually) I can tell you that you don't need to panic about your major. Nowaday's college offers so many courses to satisfy every single dream you might have :)

Yes, I definitely don't want to be coding for the rest of my life. I'm liking CIS because it has some stuff from computer science, plus it has some more stuff like database management, security stuff, networking, and even business stuff. But I don't really know too many people who are in those majors (i know 1 in computer science and 1 in CIS and they both like the major they're taking)

I might just major in CIS and minor in Computer Science (if you can)

So if anyone is majoring in any of these please reply so I can learn more about them

Thanks for the advice WebMastress.. :) I just want to be extra sure so I don't go into something that I will hate

I'm not sure about computer sciences because the market is being pulled down by outsourcers (so you might have to complete with REALLY low prices). Just my two cents.
