Collecting email list with WordPress

I haven't done any email marketing before, nor have I collected a list for it, but I'd like to try that now.

I'm running self-hosted WP, and I'd like to have some nice and clean solution for collecting emails in exchange for an ebook. I guess I'll go for Aweber, but any other tips from people doing this already?

My plan is to get people to subscribe and send them a free - but limited - ebook regarding the service I aim to sell to them via email later on. That, or an upgrade to the service they hopefully purchase by visiting my site.

@SliceOfLife.... If you using FeedBurner as your feed and subscription service, you can utilize and collecting emails from who have subscribe. Just simply Go to Your Feed Dashboard >> Choose your Feed >> Click Publicize >> Click Subscription Management
Scroll your screen until the bottom, and you will find "View Subscriber Details". Click it.
    Here the screenshot of mine.

You can also export theme into CSV file.

    Hope it will help you.

Thanks guys, I'll take a look!

Then how about getting people to notice my free offer on my site? I don't want to use any annoying stuff that pops up to their face right upon entering - maybe I'd like to have something like peeling page in the corner which would state that they may get the free ebook, and then just redirect them to local page where they could submit their email and get a link to the said book via autoresponder.

Any suggestions how to do this with WP? Any add-ons?

You can use free plugins to make peel page appear in corner. Try to choose which one plugin do you like,

I've gotten a solution, but it's not exactly as good as I'd like it to be; sure it works just as I'd want it to, but it's Flash... I just couldn't get the damn jQuery to work at all!

For autoresponder I recommend getresponse or Imnicamail.

My favorite for gathering emails is WYSIJA or Mailpoet (they are the same thing).

Great flexibility in creating the forms. Really good newsletter editor/publisher that can be automated. It really is pretty awesome.
