Colin Powell on Face the Nation 12/17/06. We are losing the war and we are less safe

Colin Powell was interviewed on CBS Face the Nation on Sunday.

Here is a written report of his interview:

I definately agree with the last paragraph. I've been concerned about troop levels for some time. Its astonishing that only recently has the public learned extensively that US military ground troops are under enormous strain.

That is a serious weakness...that in my mind wasn't made public for a long time.

    What do you think?

Total waste of time. No point in sending more Americans in to be needlessly killed in Bush's crazy quest to dominate the Middle East for oil and pipelines.

Yeah, it's much better to let those terrorists needlessly continue killing Iraqis in their crazy quest to dominate the middle east for oil and pipelines.

All depends on who you support.

    I support the truth GTech.

Why do you think the US are building "enduring bases" (a.k.a permanent bases) out there?

Because they intend to occupy Iraq for many years to come, people like you just can't see what is happening. I'm hoping you'll remove your Bill O'Reilly blinkers in the new year. :)

Then why is your site filled with conspiracy videos from people exploiting the victims of 9/11 for profit?

But it's not though GTech, it is full of a variety of videos exposing how we are all being conned throughout history. And a lot of them are backed up with hard facts on how we're being conned. But me and you will never agree on this of that we can be sure. :)

But it is, AGS. Conmen, pimping fear to gullible white males with low self-esteems and hawking their products for profit at the expense of 9/11 victims. Giving aid and comfort to terrorists by blindly giving their credit to governments and selling out their country by trying to make them the enemy.

We means you and me. I agree you are being conned. But I am not part of your "we." :) You're still a nice and funny chap though!

    Thanks buddy. :)

I do have a fantastic sense of humour. :)

You're main problem is that you fail to question opposite views of what you are told by idiots like Rumsfeld, Rice, Bush and other people in power.

I know under that blinkered outlook you have that there is a nice person waiting to get out. I don't dislike you even though you can be quite annoying at times with some of your posts, I still love you though.

When (without the American citizens consent) you have lost most of your constitutional rights, are spending the Amero, and have the NAFTA Super Highway running through your back garden I want you to remember what I have been saying mate. There is a lot of bad shit going on right under your nose and you are too blind to see it.

G Tech... I have said all along, we deny America's true military strength by becoming entrenched.

Our military strength is in dynamic, swift, and devasting attack.

We walk these streets and we deny our strength, our advantage.

We should have just hit them all so hard their ears would still be ringing.

And told them: you fuck with our skylines again - we'll be back. Work out your own bloody bullshit here where you live. Don't fuck with us again.

We should have left the score: Two Towers - Two Countries.

Let them know - we're alittle crazy, alittle unpredictable. Political correctness go fuck itself. Kind'a like Andrew Jackson might'a said.

And remember, boyos - we're damn good shots.

    ;)

I spend a lot of time questioning a lot of things. I've questioned and researched a number of these looney "gobmint" conspiracy theories, unlike most of those that subscribe to them. They seem to never question the things they subscribe to. This was most evident in the 9/11 conspiracy video thread earlier this year. I made an open offer to a number of "less than desirables" who supported this crap, to pick out from the video the thing they wanted most to stand behind, and I would debate it.

In typical fashion of most theorists, the first one immediately copied/pasted a few dozen questions that others had composed and in a lazy manner said "ok, debunk these." Once we were able to clear up that they had to actually put some effort forward, and got things going, it was a dismal event for them.

I debunked a number of them and Mia also took some on. It was really embarrassing for them. They did the same thing you are doing here, asking others to question things. The problem is, they didn't hold themselves to the same standard. It was clear as day they never took the time to question the validity of these fairy tales they were standing behind.

I know exactly where you are coming from, DC :D

And I agree. I really do. No more PC crap. Want to fight? Wanna be starting something? Here, deal with *this*.

I'm thankful there are many who will work tirelessly to ensure liberal democrats are denied the one thing they want more than anything else. Defeat on behalf of their country and failure. I'm committed to ensuring liberals will not claim a win for our enemies, and I believe there are many in office now that will do the same.

In 4 decades I have never heard leaders of the US military warn that our ground forces are "almost broke".

That is virtually inconceivable to me. That is from the same country, that at 1/2 the population had 8.4 million soldiers in the military during WWII and was fighting major wars on 3 continents (Europe, Asia, and Africa).

Now with a small army we are at overcapacity fighting in a limited basis in 2 countries.

It is a remarkable occurance fostered on America by the Bush administration.

Today, in the Washington Post lead article, leaks are purporting that the Joint Chiefs of Staff are UNIFIED in not wanting to add 20-50,000 additional troops into Iraq for a short term (possibly up to 6 months). The administration is considering this policy.

Despite the big talk from non-military experts, Colin Powell posed the question very well. It comes from someone who was responsable for implementing military decisions--not big talk mouthing off about them.

He asked what would they do, what would be their mission, how would they carry it out, what would be the objective?

Subsequent mention in the above referenced article identified a number of reasons why not to send in these troops for a limited time; Shiite death squads might melt into the population to wait out the US military leaving; Sunni and Al Queda might simply target more Americans, etc.

In terms of bombing, boys, who you gonna bomb? We bombed the crap out of Iraq at the start of the war. At the very beginning we bombed a so called "safe house" where we thought Saddam was. Well, either he wasn't there or he escaped after the bombing.

You gonna bomb the biggest building occupied by Al Queda? Good going. Find it first.

The scariest thing to me are the growing number of phrases from people who know, who run the military. They keep bringing up that the Army is near BROKE.

Now that is a danger to America.
