Hi I am new to all this i have a web site at http://www.cold-climbs.com and i would like to get peoples opinions on it and if there is anything i can do to improve it. I am trying to make user friendly and keep visitors coming back by having user active stuff in it like forums, galleries, profiles, calendar event ect but i think they need some work as i feel they all look a bit tacky any suggestions would be great Oh and its been enjoyable puting in my ten topics and relies i think i shall stick around this forum its seems pretty friendly
visually appealing but nothing turns me off quicker than hidden text. Also noticed keyword list appeared to be excessively long. My rule of thumb is no more than 3 keyword phrases per page. Use some of your other keywords on inside pages. Shannon
I agree with smyrl on the text issue - it's also not necessary to get you good keyword density (I'm assuming that 'cold climbs' is a phrase your visitors would be searching for?) I would also consider placing your page section headings in <h2> tags and making these 'keyword phrases' if they're not already. Best of luck Mick
I've heard that a few times, but why? Surely there is nothing in the Google or any other SE's TOS that says you can't optimise for 6 or 10 keyword phrases, for example I optimise my home page for 9 keyword phases, and all apart from one are in the top 10. Regarding the site - nice design, layout okay, but get rid of that spam Also rather than having that dodgy looking banner advertising at the bottom why don't you go for Google Adsense, looks more appealing on the pages, and you'll probably earn more money on it. Just a thought.. Darren
Hi thanks for the comments i have changed the txt headers to <H2> andf included them in the keywords. I am unsure aboyt the spam and what you are refuring to please explain remember i am no professional cheers
OOpps i set the txt to <H2> and the grey area increased in size so i have reset it back for now cos i dont know how to stop that happing as yet
The white text on the white background that repeats 'cold climb' is spam. It is invisible to visitors so is only there to boost rankings. Stick to methods that make your site more usable for visitors and you can't go wrong. When I mentioned adding your keyword phrases I actually meant to your <h2>'s not your META TAGS eg <h2>Ice Climbing Gear from Cold Climbs</h2> Code (markup): Regards Mick
Do a bit of research on Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and use it to set the padding for the <h2>'s. Google for CSS Tutorial and open up a whole new world outside Dreamweaver Mick
What I have read about keyword phrases is list the phrases you want to target and plan pages around those. Say they are web design and search engine optimization... Make one page targeting web design, use keywords web design, web site design etc. Make another page for search engine optimization with keyword phrases such as search engine optimizatioin, SEO etc. My largest e-commerce sight receives more hits on secondary page for a secondary keyword phrase I was targeting than main one I was targeting. Best of luck. Shannon
