Who? Never heard of him before his botched performance. How embarrassing for him, to fall so flat on his face with such a large gathering of hostile people. I read that even the angry "progressives" were not impressed with him. Maybe next year they'll get someone better.
Colbert is pretty funny in small spurts. Too much of him, and you realize he's way too smarmy and kinda annoying. He's insanely funny on "The Daily Show", but God, I want to kill myself after watching him on his own show for more than 10 minutes.
I think his show is better than the Daily Show. His "O'Reilly" persona is hilarious! Sometimes I turn on "The Factor" just to see how good Colbert really is at his impression.
I have to agree that he's only great in small doses. [And this from a Canadian socialist!] I find that the biggest problem with any of the political satirists like him is that you can only infer that someone's not very clever for a limited amount of time before it just becomes repetitive and tedious. His interviews are good, though.
His interviews are friggin hilarious because he has someone to work across. When he's on his own, he tends to oversell the gags and it becomes tedious watching a guy who thinks he's so much more clever than you. Like I said, he comes across as way too smarmy on his own.
Dude, that's just how he is. Haven't you seen any of his "Daily Show" skits? That's how Colbert always looks/acts when he's doing his bit. I've watched TDS for 5 years, and he's never changed that smarmy impression. It's his schtick.
I didn't really see that much of him on the Daily Show. Just a few interviews and "This Week in God." Personally, I like his smarm!
Damn, that's one ballsy dude to say that crap! Funny as hell... although I think inappropriate but then again maybe it was needed...
