.co.uk to .com conundrum

I've got a bit of a conundrum with a website that I have. It has become a popular portal for its niche but it is on a .co.uk domain.

If I move it to another domain I will lose all those links to it and so the Google ranking. Yet a .com domain seems more appropriate for a portal that serves people all over the world.

Is there any solution to this? Is there a best practice response?

    Thanks,

    Jon

Bot that I know of, but try making your users aware of the change a couple of days before, and contact any sites that link to you too.

ug... that sucks.. You can try the above, but if you do move it you have to 301 the old domain, and never sell it or lose it as any links that dont update will be lost. Once you move it, you need to start doing some hard marketing to get some fresh links to help it along.

Well you could purchase the .com and just set it up to redirect to the .co.uk
