Hi I have a.com site with a uk market but it isnt ranking well. I had some pointers that i really needed a .co.uk site for the uk to get good serps. Does any one agree with this or should i just slog it out with the .com regards dd
If you are aiming mainly for a UK market I would go with the .co.uk as when searching on Google people may select "Page from the UK" or something to that effect on other search engines. Could be worth buying both if you are serious about it and then just make them both point to the same website.
You should go with the "co.uk". It will rank better if your main audience is in the United Kingdom. Just think that www.google.co.uk will list the co.uk domains first for specific keywords.
Contrary to popular belief, the 'show only sites in the UK' option doesn't really work as there are many non-UK based sites and there's never been a definitive on whether it's based on where the site is hosted or the domain extension. I have .co.uk and .com sites, both serving the UK and would probably say the .coms get more traffic but that's may be due to them being a few years older than the .co.uk's. Certainly if you are selling stuff, most UK surfers will click a .co.uk over a .com for anything other than a big brand name as they assume a .com will involve higher shipping etc. But given that .co.uk's are so cheap it's silly not to buy them and redirect .com traffic to them, or vice versa.
thanks guys. I;ll go with the .co.uk for the uk audience and bag the .com and redirect.much appreciated
