I've registered the name of a site with both .co.uk and .net variations, however the .com is unavailable (although there isn't a site on it) but I can't buy it as it's owned by someone. Which would be best for my holding site and which extention would be best for the "forwarding" address? I want to appeal to both US and UK markets as well as the rest of the world, but I am based in the UK. I also want to utilise the URL best for SEO, and would the extention make an impact? My hosting server is based in the UK. Does anyone have any experience in which one would be best? Thanks.
Dot Net will be better, UK domains are best targeted at UK markets but Dot Net can be targeted at the UK as well as any market in the world. Go to Google Webmaster, you will know that with com/net/org you are allow to specify which country you want to target. But with country extensions, Google automatically lock it to that country.
