Hi Guys, Excuse my ignorance on this one but I'm considering joining the co-op and realised by doing a search that the 'theme selection' I should be using for an Automotive site / forum needs to be in Recreational. Given I'm going to be in recreational will this mean I will be getting links to sites which deal with fishing, dancing etc rather than the area I'm wishing to be focusing on ie other car sites? Thanks Cheers
yeah - basically. I dont like the whole catagory thing. It worries me that I might not be spread across as many sites.
Actually categorization is a good thing if you have enough sites, and I'd bet the coop does. Categories make things more relavent. The only problem I have is the coop doesn't have a "shopping" category so shopping sites are putting their stuff in either "other" or "business". Still, I'm not sure it's even really implemented yet as I get all kinds of ads on my site. In any case, the only thing that matters is results. People are getting some really excellent results from the coop. What else do you need to know?
Thanks guys, I've decided to jump in and have a go. A big thanks to joeychgo for all his help as well, it's very much appreciated.
As I understand it, the categories are not in play at all yet, and there's no date set. Besides, you also need to specify the categories acceptable to the website, not just the ads - and that hasn't been implemented yet (even as a 'data gathering' exercise). All wonderful features yet to come I suspect when there's scope for the additional overhead. As for the categories - If it were me doing it, I'd be using a simplified ODP tree. If there's not enough sites below your node on the branch, then go to the parent node, and so on. That way you remain on theme, going from specific to less specific etc. Either way - the network is worth being a part of - it works..
A shopping category isn't all that useful if yuo think about it for a minute. It'll be more irrelevant than anything else. If you would get links from other shops then it could be from anything like viagra to scooters and sex toys to cars.
An automotive category was much better then selecting Recreational... If you have an website about car towing that's not recreational at all, but automotive.
I noted there isn't a category for education, and my ads get rejected in the travel category, even though I would think that language courses abroad would be at the crossroads of education and travel Is there any plan to extend the categories (I realize that the number of participating sites may need to increase to make categories sensible) - or do I have to put my adds into 'other'?
